Moderate Republicans
From what I read about the new book by Christie Todd Whitman, former Republican governor of New Jersey and Bush's first EPA director, she chides the Bushies for being too ideological in their opposition to big government. She calls for the party to moderate itself so it can win elections. There are a couple problems here. First, perhaps Christie Todd Whitman was asleep this past November, but Republicans did pretty well in the past election. In fact they have done well in in the past two elections under George Bush. If that's losing, show me winning. Second, I thought it was the dreaded evangelicals who had captured the GOP and driven it too far right. So not only are the Republicans too religious, they are too anti-government? Let me put this together. Repbulicans should give up their defense of marriage, defense of the unborn, and learn to love big government. In short, they should be Democrats. Why not give up on the fight against terrorism, while we're at it? Again, we have a party that fully embraces what Whitman and other critics of the Repbulicans advocate. They are the Democrats, and they can't win anything these days.
